" Samuel Fuller wrote in the Big Red One, 'the only glory in war is surviving.' In that one thought, he far surpassed the insights of Sun Tzu and von Clausewitz, the brilliance of Caesar and Napoleon and the bravado of Patton and MacArthur. None of whom ever spent even one night shivering in a fox hole just wishing they were home. Such, is the folly of war ... It's all blood and guts. But whose blood and whose guts?"

(Editor's note - There is good evidence that both Caesar and Napoleon both did indeed shiver with their comrades in the field, at various times.  But point well taken, nevertheless.)
